The famous Super Mini is now powered by electricity.

The iconic Renault 5 celebrated its 50th anniversary with a new design, the Renault 5 Diamant, the company announced in a press release.

French car company Renault sold more than 5 million units of popular culture in many countries between 1972 and 1984.

Now the iconic model has been redesigned into an electric car and has been named Renault 5 Diamant, in collaboration with French designer Pierre Gonalons.

While the Renault 5 Diamant will be an electric-powered display car, it embodies the designer's vision for the car of the future, combining the distinctive features of cars with interior décor.
"I am honoured to invite Renault to reinvent the legendary Renault 5 on its 50th anniversary. The brand gave me the unleashed design of my dream car, " said Pierre Gonalons  . What I wanted to do with the Renault 5 Diamant was to pay tribute to its revolutionary design while at the same time transferring the shapes and colors of Connie to the automotive world."

The most distinctive part of Renault 5 Diamant is the steering wheel, which is marbled on carbon, and its unique shape does not make it less suitable for the driver.

"This steering wheel is crystallizing free movement across the spaces," said Pierre Gonalons  Lloydley. It refers to the newfound impression of freedom that comes with owning a car for the first time, as was often the case with R5 owners. I also wanted to add a touch of surrealism associated with one of my favorite materials."

François Farion, Director of Reno Colors and Decorations, noted that Pierre Gonalon  , his creative team and their personalities rank them among the best craftsmen in France. The result is groundbreaking, and the details are very precise. For me, the Renault 5 Diamant is more of an emotional shock than anything else: the exterior colors give the car a naïve look and at the same time, a sophisticated look. Pierre cares a lot about details. It is very sensitive to references and meaning in every element."

Design

The exterior color is a combination of three layers of paint: golden pigments on a pink base, covered with frosted burnish produces a variety of effects ranging from golden dashes in sunlight to blue shades in the dark.

Besides being fully electric, the Renault 5 Diamant comes equipped with a fingerprint scanner to open doors, featuring a three-position serial transmission crane (forward, neutral, and rear).

Diamant's round dvDs, which praise the art of watchmaking, provide basic information: speed, battery charging and time. Mobility and entertainment information can be easily provided through the owner's smartphone, which fits with a custom cradle in the middle of the dashboard.

Many artisans who work with Pierre Gunalons have regularly pooled their expertise at the Renault 5 Diamant. Specifically, the steering wheel and storage room were made of French marble Grand Antique d'Aubert recycled by Minéral Expertise and poured into tubes to make it lighter and more flexible.

NFT auction

Renault has also decided to enter the world of NFT. The company will once again collaborate with Gonalons and develop a wide range of Renault 5 Diamant-inspired NFTs that will be unveiled in September.
The Renault 5 Diamant will be auctioned after a few weeks with digital twin NFT. Proceeds from the sale will be donated to Give Me 5, Renault's new CSR project to reach younger generations through sports and music.
