A combination of interlocking road closures, lane closures and a planned car ban area for Canada Day means motorists must plan ahead and anticipate delays. (Ottawa City)

Are you considering heading to LeBreton Flats Park or downtown Ottawa to celebrate Canada Day?

With police expecting hundreds of thousands of people to flood parts of the city on Friday, the following streets will be closed from 6am on holiday until early Saturday morning:

Downtown areas and Lebreton Flats

While Wellington Street between Elgin and Bank streets has been closed since the weeks-long winter demonstrations, the road in front of Parliament House will also be closed at several other intersections.

Wellington's closure will now extend all the way to Sir John A. MacDonald Parkway, which will itself be closed to Parkdale Street.
Kent, Lyon, Bay and Commissioner streets from Albert to Wellington will be closed, while Bank Street will be closed only between Queen and Wellington.

Bronson Street will be closed between Sparks and Albert, with Booth Street closed between Schudier Crossing and Albert.

Chaudière Crossing will be closed to car and pedestrian traffic, while Portage Bridge will be closed only to motorists to allow the public to walk between events in Gatineau and Ottawa.

Vimy Place will be completely closed, which wraps around LeBreton Flats Park.

Nearby Fleet Street will be closed between Booth and Lett streets, with Lett closing between Lloyd and Wellington. The entire Lloyd Street will be closed.

Onigam Street, which runs to Lemieux Island, will be closed.
On Friday evening, Albert Street will close between Preston Street and Bronson Street from 9pm. Until July 2 at 2:00 a.m.

Queen Street may be closed between O'Connor and Bank streets when needed, as well as bank closures between Queen and Albert.

Other streets west of downtown Ottawa and South Albert will remain open to local traffic, unless otherwise mentioned.

Officials said plans could change, if necessary, and people could check city pages and local media for updates.

As with past Canada Days, OC Transpo will offer a free service on July 1.

Pedestrians and cyclists will find that parts of several trails will be closed after 4:30 p.m. On Christmas.
